About the Montessori Method
The Montessori system recognises and respects the natural curiosity of children and their desire to learn by themselves. The Montessori materials awaken this desire and channel that curiosity to a learning experience which they enjoy and remember lifelong. The children learn by associating an abstract concept with a concrete sensorial experience (ie. using their sense of touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste) to explore and manipulate the materials in their environment. This environment (class room) is specialy prepared for the child’s actual learning and not just memorising. The emphasis for learning in this kind of environment is considered vital between the age of 2 ½ - 6 years. |
